Superbowl mania is over and it was an exciting game. Low scoring but excellent. Patriots lost but I thought the Underdog Giants were better in every aspect of Offense, Defense and sometimes Special Teams. Eli Manning was good, completely overshadowing Tom Brady in the definition of Cool. Who would have thought that a year after Peyton Manning takes his team, the Colts, to the Superbowl and wins the game and gets the MVP trophy, li'l brother is going to do the same thing, that too against a team knocking on the doors of history with an 18-0 season and post-season record. Olivia and Archie Manning must be darn proud of the achievements of their "Quarterback" sons.
Yogesh and I were wondering why on earth will Bill Belichick go for 4th and 13 when there was enough time on the clock and Stephen Gostkowski was a proven Field-Goal Kicker. Those 3 points could have been the crucial difference between the 17-14 final score and an overtime period.
People say, Offense wins games, Defense wins Championships. That was very apt yesterday. But people also say, History Repeats Itself. The Patriots could not create history yesterday, but given the resilience and the talent of this team and of course, Thomas Edward Brady, history one day is bound to repeat itself.
Roger Federer did not win the Australian Open. Novak Djokovic did. The Underdog, here again proved victorious against all odds. This just gives added motivation to a Great Champion to win the next Grand Slam, the only one to avoid him so far, The French Open.
In other news, the bidding for the teams for BCCI's Indian Premier League created a huge record. Mukesh Ambani, who else, had the highest bid for Mumbai, with $111.7 million followed by Vijay Mallya, for the Bangalore team with $111.4 million. Shahrukh Khan was not to be out-done either, bidding for the Kolkata team with approximately $75 million. Insane amounts are being spent on Cricket, the national team for which is currently struggling to finish Twenty20 and 50 over One-Day Internationals in Australia. Way to go. Indian public, at the very sight of celebrities and aging superstars will spend their hard-earned money on something so foolish. Or atleast the BCCI sure hopes so, considering the television rights for the 44 game tournament has been sold for monstrous amounts.
Raj Thackarey's Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) is creating havoc in Mumbai by attacking non-Maharashtrians (specially from North India) and creating unwanted controversy by ridiculing other states' traditional events. Targetting Amitabh Bachchan of all the people is not going to make Raj Thackarey a very popular man in Mumbai. This is going to create a huge hindu communal divide giving another chance to the anti-socials to break-down India's financial capital. Someone please stand up to this and put an end to this horrific nonsense.
What a weird weird month.
