Rumblings and Ramblings

Highs for the week gone by:
  • Kirti (finally) came on friday after lot of plane cancellations and delays.
  • Had a great time at Mukesh's place on a rainy friday night.
  • Had a superb time at Mithil and Pallavi's new house on a clear saturday night. Had a fun time with the potluck food and the games.
  • Had a fun time playing volleyball on a bright and sunny sunday afternoon.

Lows for the week gone by:

  • Kirti left for Chicago on monday morning.
  • Work not getting completed because of factors not under my control.
  • Not much work to look forward to in the coming months. Boss is trying to get more work our way but if the nature of the "new" work is the same as this, then it is not worth the time and does not add to the knowledge gained.

In other news, Samrat completes his work at BSC this week and moves on to Peoria, IL to work for heavy industries giant Caterpillar starting his work there on the 19th. Good luck to him. Harsha celebrated her birthday on the 5th. May 5th is one date where few people known to me celebrate their birthdays.

Is it just me that it seems that IPL is already getting boring and it is not even close to the halfway mark yet. With too many matches being played at the same time it is quite confusing to understand who won and who lost and who is playing for which team. I do manage to take a peek at the current matches for the day just to divert attention from the work, or rather the lack of work.

Harbhajan Singh should be banned from all kinds of cricket for the manner in which he treated Sreesanth. No one in professional sports should act the way Harbhajan did and I hope Sudhir Nanavati comes up with a strict recommendation for BCCI to ban the offie. This is not Harbhajan's first offense by any stretch of the imagination.

22000+ people dead and lots more counting in Myanmar (Burma) because of Cyclone Nargis. The photos from the destruction are very heart-wrenching and I hope the military government does the right thing by allowing international aid to come to Burma.

As I write this blog, the price of gas is $3.45 /gallon and most Americans here think the country is in recession. Yet, all the NBA playoff games being played are sold-out. IRONMAN earns more than $100 million in 3 days in the USA. Most MLB games played during regular work-hours are viewed by millions of fans in the stadiums and on TV. On the way to work, there is only 1 American in a gas-guzzling SUV or a car. Traffic has not slowed down a bit, neither has air travel. Come september, NFL stadiums will not have a single empty seat and will be packed with close to 60,000 fans each game, each paying through the nose for a ticket. Even after all these fears of an economic breakdown and job losses, did some one in America say Recession?

Please Help

While I have been blogging for nearly 2 years now and that visitors (like you) are fairly low in number, I would still like to know who you are. Although I know one of my UA friend is a regular here (and yes, it is you Hari), I don't know who are the other frequent fliers. If you choose to remain anonymous, that is also fine, but kindly leave a comment or two in the message box that is on the right side of the webpage. I am trying to get a feel for how often do you stop by. The reason I am asking you to do this is because I need your help. No, it has nothing to do with donations or anything monetary, but here I am in my third month in Bangalore and I am absolutely bored. I need some suggestions to utilize my time efficiently and effectively. Please refrain from suggesting using the gym or joining a book club. These 2 are not my cuppa tea. My mind is 100% blank about extra-curricular activities and I need some 'external' help. One of my closest friends had suggested joining...

Sunday Night Update

Watched the first presidential debate on friday night between John McCain and Barack Obama. Good timepass on a friday night, if you are into these things. I have been taking a keen interest in politics lately and it keeps the clock ticking for me after I reach home from work.  I am particularly annoyed and irritated at both these candidates on the Iraq war for always ignoring the fact that over 100,000 Iraqis have lost their lives. What wrong did they do? And there aren't too many news outlets that are willing to show the plight of (Iraqi) families who lost near and dear ones. That's obvious, isn't it? Barack Obama looks confident and ready moreso that John McCain to lead the United States for the next 4 years. Looking forward to the Joe Biden - Sarah Palin debate this coming thursday. Should be interesting to see Palin talk extempore without a teleprompter.  Back to some sunday night news here. For the first time in few years since I started following football, I felt bore...

Who let the dogs out?

You know how many humans have been diagnosed with multiple personality disorder and the condition manifests itself at intervals depending on the situation; a similar behavior is seen among man's best friends, especially the strays. First, a first for us (among many other firsts during this trip). As my father, Kirti and yours truly watched Rocky aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani last night and got off the theater at 1 AM (yessir - my father, Kirti and I is a trifecta one would normally not associate as the group going to a movie with a 10PM start), the logical idea was to look for an auto to take us home. As soon as I trudged off in the direction of Mulund station where autos are normally available, a small hitch! A few stray dogs, who normally would be well behaved during the day, figured now would be the best time to put on the Manjulika avatar and display their beastly best behavior. Wrong turn, Rajesh. And so we decided to walk the roughly 10-12 minutes. Brilliant decision, says Kirti,...
