Violence Rekindled

This past weekend there was a major scuffle between 2 Sikh factions in Mulund. One group was allegedly and deservedly pissed off at Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh's bodyguard for killing one of the protesters. The protesters were protesting for the arrest of the sect's chief for dressing up like Guru Gobind Singh at an earlier event. The killing of the protester spilled on to the streets and violence broke out. Once again stuck in the middle was the common man.

Shops were vandalized, railway tracks blocked, trains affected and innocent men and women were threatened by sword-brandishing rioters.

To add to this mayhem, a Shiv Sena leader has warned that there will be more violence if the Sikh group does not stop this violence. What!!!!!!!! Instead of lessening the pain, Shiv Sena is trying to inflict more. They are angry that innocent Maharashtrian men and women are being targeted and threatened. Shiv Sena is worried about the closure of shops and rail-roko stuff. What they don't realize is that they themselves are one of the most offensive political groups in the country resorting to violence and hampering the normal routine of the Maharashtrian people. No political group is non-violent but Shiv Sena's reaction is beyond sensible. I am sure they are going to play the "Hindu" card again or if it is Raj Thackeray, he is going to use the "Aamchi Maathi Aamchi Maansa" card to protect Maharashtra. The elections are nearing and Shiv Sena wants to win big by "protecting" the people. Bal Thackeray is getting older and the "Remote Control" is not functioning anymore as compared to the mid-1990s. The most horrible scenario would be when Thackeray Sr. dies of natural causes, Shiv Sena would call for a Maharashtra bandh or most certainly a Mumbai bandh, obstructing businesses and destroying anything and everything that moves to honor their leader.

You may have heard in the past week that Bal Thackeray wants Hindu Suicide groups to be formed to retaliate against Muslim extremists groups. This kind of propaganda and "out-of-the-box" thinking is going to leave Mumbai and the rest of the country burning again. 1992 anyone??

Sunday Night Update

Watched the first presidential debate on friday night between John McCain and Barack Obama. Good timepass on a friday night, if you are into these things. I have been taking a keen interest in politics lately and it keeps the clock ticking for me after I reach home from work.  I am particularly annoyed and irritated at both these candidates on the Iraq war for always ignoring the fact that over 100,000 Iraqis have lost their lives. What wrong did they do? And there aren't too many news outlets that are willing to show the plight of (Iraqi) families who lost near and dear ones. That's obvious, isn't it? Barack Obama looks confident and ready moreso that John McCain to lead the United States for the next 4 years. Looking forward to the Joe Biden - Sarah Palin debate this coming thursday. Should be interesting to see Palin talk extempore without a teleprompter.  Back to some sunday night news here. For the first time in few years since I started following football, I felt bore...

Writer's Block

It's been six months since I put pen to paper, rather, fingers to keyboard, to put up a blog post. Talk about a writer's block. Highlights of the hiatus include; - Rivika and Riaan turning 10. That they are unrecognizable now compared to their 1st or even 5th birthday shows Kirti and I how fast they have really grown. Fine little pre-teens they've become, with their varied interests in sports and dance leading to a hopefully and potentially fulfilling childhood and beyond. - A splendid trip to Cancun (Mexico) to ring in the kids' milestone birthday. - The hottest Christmas in recent memory (celebrated in Mexico, that is). A trip to the ruins of Chichen-Itza (these folks knew what they were doing, mighty impressive I say), a stroll through the city center of Valladolid (one might say the place bears a striking resemblance to Panjim (Goa)), a thrill-seeking dive through a Cenote, copious amounts of watered-down unlimited alcohol at an all-inclusive resort, which in itself...

Please Help

While I have been blogging for nearly 2 years now and that visitors (like you) are fairly low in number, I would still like to know who you are. Although I know one of my UA friend is a regular here (and yes, it is you Hari), I don't know who are the other frequent fliers. If you choose to remain anonymous, that is also fine, but kindly leave a comment or two in the message box that is on the right side of the webpage. I am trying to get a feel for how often do you stop by. The reason I am asking you to do this is because I need your help. No, it has nothing to do with donations or anything monetary, but here I am in my third month in Bangalore and I am absolutely bored. I need some suggestions to utilize my time efficiently and effectively. Please refrain from suggesting using the gym or joining a book club. These 2 are not my cuppa tea. My mind is 100% blank about extra-curricular activities and I need some 'external' help. One of my closest friends had suggested joining...
