Rapists

Just today I read a piece of news where a New Delhi traffic constable raped a minor girl in a moving car. And in other news, couple of 18 year old boys sodomized a 13 year old boy in New Delhi. Couple of weeks ago a middle-aged woman was raped by few men known to her in a moving car on the pretext of dropping her home from the market, this again in New Delhi. Few more weeks ago mentally disabled minor was raped by someone she knew, in New Delhi. A few days before this incident another minor girl was raped by someone she knew, in New Delhi. Last month a woman was molested by security guards of a minister. No brownie points for guessing where this happened. New Delhi. To make matters worse, these are just the reported stories. There might be thousands of such other cases which are unreported. The sad part about most of these brutalities is that the accused is someone whom the victim knew or a government servant. How can you trust anyone in this world nowadays?

Unfortunately, websites like timesofindia.com never publish reports as to what happened to the accused in these rape cases. Most of the rapists are absconding somewhere, possibly raping a few more girls/women to satisfy their sexual urges. There are crimes committed elsewhere too, no doubt, but to hear such reports coming in on a regular basis from the nation's capital is very hard to digest. Not to mention the pain and suffering the victims will face from a society that is not known to embrace the hurt. People like us need to stand up to this atrocities and spread awareness about education and morality.

People and the government consider prostitution to be a tabooed profession and hence are not in a favor of giving any official status to it. But few know that it is the oldest profession in the world and was given legal status by the Emperors and Kings that ruled India. Forcing someone into prostitution is not an idea that I endorse but the prostitutes who earn a living out of it because they can do it is something that I thoroughly support. Atleast because of these prostitutes and their profession getting a legal status will reduce the number of rape cases reported in the country. To say the least, the very same ministers who oppose the existence of dance bars and red light districts cool off in the company of highly paid actresses and models who sell their body for the extra buck. Where did the morality go then? IPL cheerleaders in skimpy clothes all around the country aren't doing any favors either. They will just incite the anti-socials towards more crime. Lets hope the cheerleaders themselves aren't the victims one day.

Criminals who are child molesters and child rapists are given the lowest billing in US jails by fellow inmates. They are normally killed or beaten badly every time other inmates come to know about their presence in prison. Such is the hatred for child rapists. Same thing should happen in India as well, but it won't. India on the other hand should award the highest possible sentence to the rapists so that others don't follow suit. Its high time the crime rate in India towards minor girls and women go down. They are in a minority anyways, lets hope they don't become extinct because of these motherf#$%@s.

Sunday Night Update

Watched the first presidential debate on friday night between John McCain and Barack Obama. Good timepass on a friday night, if you are into these things. I have been taking a keen interest in politics lately and it keeps the clock ticking for me after I reach home from work.  I am particularly annoyed and irritated at both these candidates on the Iraq war for always ignoring the fact that over 100,000 Iraqis have lost their lives. What wrong did they do? And there aren't too many news outlets that are willing to show the plight of (Iraqi) families who lost near and dear ones. That's obvious, isn't it? Barack Obama looks confident and ready moreso that John McCain to lead the United States for the next 4 years. Looking forward to the Joe Biden - Sarah Palin debate this coming thursday. Should be interesting to see Palin talk extempore without a teleprompter.  Back to some sunday night news here. For the first time in few years since I started following football, I felt bore...

Writer's Block

It's been six months since I put pen to paper, rather, fingers to keyboard, to put up a blog post. Talk about a writer's block. Highlights of the hiatus include; - Rivika and Riaan turning 10. That they are unrecognizable now compared to their 1st or even 5th birthday shows Kirti and I how fast they have really grown. Fine little pre-teens they've become, with their varied interests in sports and dance leading to a hopefully and potentially fulfilling childhood and beyond. - A splendid trip to Cancun (Mexico) to ring in the kids' milestone birthday. - The hottest Christmas in recent memory (celebrated in Mexico, that is). A trip to the ruins of Chichen-Itza (these folks knew what they were doing, mighty impressive I say), a stroll through the city center of Valladolid (one might say the place bears a striking resemblance to Panjim (Goa)), a thrill-seeking dive through a Cenote, copious amounts of watered-down unlimited alcohol at an all-inclusive resort, which in itself...

Please Help

While I have been blogging for nearly 2 years now and that visitors (like you) are fairly low in number, I would still like to know who you are. Although I know one of my UA friend is a regular here (and yes, it is you Hari), I don't know who are the other frequent fliers. If you choose to remain anonymous, that is also fine, but kindly leave a comment or two in the message box that is on the right side of the webpage. I am trying to get a feel for how often do you stop by. The reason I am asking you to do this is because I need your help. No, it has nothing to do with donations or anything monetary, but here I am in my third month in Bangalore and I am absolutely bored. I need some suggestions to utilize my time efficiently and effectively. Please refrain from suggesting using the gym or joining a book club. These 2 are not my cuppa tea. My mind is 100% blank about extra-curricular activities and I need some 'external' help. One of my closest friends had suggested joining...
