Happy Times

Here is the second one from me. Life has been good since the last time I wrote. Kirti finally..finally got a job she deserved from a long time. It came as quite a surprise this time of the year as business is usually slow. Parents on both sides are extremely happy and satisfied after months of pain and an uncertain future looming. She moved from Atlanta to Chicago and started her job this week. I was there in Chicago to get her settled.

And what a pain it was...

After looking at ad after ad in numerous websites and contacting a bunch load of people, she finally settled in a nice house close to work. The weather played havoc all the days I was there trying to get an accomodation. And then there was an uneasy time as to the exact date of her start. First it was Monday. 2 days before she left Atlanta the start date was Tuesday and finally when things were all set to roll, we got to know that the start date is actually WEDNESDAY. It was like, is she ever going to start her job. It was eerily similar to the confusion and frustration regarding my start date when we had moved to Chicago last year.

I can't put in words how much Kirti has suffered since she has been here. But I am glad all worked out well for her now. This position came at a time when there were an estimated 50,000 new people in the work-force vying for the same position as Kirti was trained on. Even her employer was sceptical if they would (ever) help Kirti find a project. So much so, they even stopped taking applications for Quality Testing training at their company. All Kirti has got to do now is relax and sustain at her work place. Not an easy task, but a task that needs to be done. She knows people are knocking at her doorstep waiting for her to slip. Gods grace she will be fine.

As for me, I am back in Minnesota, praying hard for her. At the same time, happy like I once was. Good times are rolling and we are rolling with it.

Till I write again, good luck and Godspeed.

Please Help

While I have been blogging for nearly 2 years now and that visitors (like you) are fairly low in number, I would still like to know who you are. Although I know one of my UA friend is a regular here (and yes, it is you Hari), I don't know who are the other frequent fliers. If you choose to remain anonymous, that is also fine, but kindly leave a comment or two in the message box that is on the right side of the webpage. I am trying to get a feel for how often do you stop by. The reason I am asking you to do this is because I need your help. No, it has nothing to do with donations or anything monetary, but here I am in my third month in Bangalore and I am absolutely bored. I need some suggestions to utilize my time efficiently and effectively. Please refrain from suggesting using the gym or joining a book club. These 2 are not my cuppa tea. My mind is 100% blank about extra-curricular activities and I need some 'external' help. One of my closest friends had suggested joining...

Sunday Night Update

Watched the first presidential debate on friday night between John McCain and Barack Obama. Good timepass on a friday night, if you are into these things. I have been taking a keen interest in politics lately and it keeps the clock ticking for me after I reach home from work.  I am particularly annoyed and irritated at both these candidates on the Iraq war for always ignoring the fact that over 100,000 Iraqis have lost their lives. What wrong did they do? And there aren't too many news outlets that are willing to show the plight of (Iraqi) families who lost near and dear ones. That's obvious, isn't it? Barack Obama looks confident and ready moreso that John McCain to lead the United States for the next 4 years. Looking forward to the Joe Biden - Sarah Palin debate this coming thursday. Should be interesting to see Palin talk extempore without a teleprompter.  Back to some sunday night news here. For the first time in few years since I started following football, I felt bore...

Who let the dogs out?

You know how many humans have been diagnosed with multiple personality disorder and the condition manifests itself at intervals depending on the situation; a similar behavior is seen among man's best friends, especially the strays. First, a first for us (among many other firsts during this trip). As my father, Kirti and yours truly watched Rocky aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani last night and got off the theater at 1 AM (yessir - my father, Kirti and I is a trifecta one would normally not associate as the group going to a movie with a 10PM start), the logical idea was to look for an auto to take us home. As soon as I trudged off in the direction of Mulund station where autos are normally available, a small hitch! A few stray dogs, who normally would be well behaved during the day, figured now would be the best time to put on the Manjulika avatar and display their beastly best behavior. Wrong turn, Rajesh. And so we decided to walk the roughly 10-12 minutes. Brilliant decision, says Kirti,...
