Taare Zameen Par

Saw "TZP" over the weekend in Chicago. I don't recollect a good children's movie other than 1993's "Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke". The common link between those two; Aamir Khan. The "Perfectionist" is at it again taking the mantle of Producer, Director and Secondary Lead.

The primary lead is of course, Darsheel Safary, who is first-class as the dyslexic 'hero' of the film. It is unbelievable to see him act the way he has. Credit must go to the director, who ALWAYS makes or breaks a film. This being AK's first film and knowing his history of "ghost-directing" most of his previous movies, you sure know this won't be run-of-the-mill crazily directed over-the-top movie.

Natural performances from all who have acted in this one. Jokes are funny and sentimental scenes are worth shedding a tear or two. Ask Kirti and she will say. At one point during the movie, I saw Kirti, the female next to her and the female next to her all crying at a particular song.

Hope everyone sees the movie atleast once. Worth spending your money and time on a movie like this rather than "Saaaaaawariyaaaaaaaaaaa". I thanked God after I watched Saawariya for keeping me alive after that horrendous movie.

Next week, we plan on watching "Welcome". Akshay Kumar is a huge super-star now and all his movies released this year, "Namastey London", "Heyy Babyy", "Bhool Bhulaiyaa" have become good hits and entertained audiences. Welcome should entertain as well.

Still have the TZP hangover from yesterday and should get over it by the time we are ready for "Welcome".

Good food and good weather made saturday a nice day to start the 1o-day holiday.

Till I write next, ciao.

Please Help

While I have been blogging for nearly 2 years now and that visitors (like you) are fairly low in number, I would still like to know who you are. Although I know one of my UA friend is a regular here (and yes, it is you Hari), I don't know who are the other frequent fliers. If you choose to remain anonymous, that is also fine, but kindly leave a comment or two in the message box that is on the right side of the webpage. I am trying to get a feel for how often do you stop by. The reason I am asking you to do this is because I need your help. No, it has nothing to do with donations or anything monetary, but here I am in my third month in Bangalore and I am absolutely bored. I need some suggestions to utilize my time efficiently and effectively. Please refrain from suggesting using the gym or joining a book club. These 2 are not my cuppa tea. My mind is 100% blank about extra-curricular activities and I need some 'external' help. One of my closest friends had suggested joining...

Sunday Night Update

Watched the first presidential debate on friday night between John McCain and Barack Obama. Good timepass on a friday night, if you are into these things. I have been taking a keen interest in politics lately and it keeps the clock ticking for me after I reach home from work.  I am particularly annoyed and irritated at both these candidates on the Iraq war for always ignoring the fact that over 100,000 Iraqis have lost their lives. What wrong did they do? And there aren't too many news outlets that are willing to show the plight of (Iraqi) families who lost near and dear ones. That's obvious, isn't it? Barack Obama looks confident and ready moreso that John McCain to lead the United States for the next 4 years. Looking forward to the Joe Biden - Sarah Palin debate this coming thursday. Should be interesting to see Palin talk extempore without a teleprompter.  Back to some sunday night news here. For the first time in few years since I started following football, I felt bore...

The only reason I write this...

So last time around, I missed writing about a new thing that we did for the first time. We went to a stand-up comedy show at The Improv in Schaumburg. We went to Anthony Jeselnik's show (those who watched the Roast of Charlie Sheen on Comedy Central should know who he is) and it was amazing. Non-stop jokes with a dead pan expression kept the audience in splits throughout the show. He even picked on someone from the crowd and made us realize never to mess with a professional. The woman who got singled out surely learnt her lesson. One thing with these comedians is that no one and no event (however tragic) is off-limits. Case in point, a joke about Casey/Caylee Anthony. So to use the second of our 3 coupons, we watched another show, this time by Greg Behrendt. The profanity-laden show was just average, clearly not the bar set by Jeselnik. And we are still debating on whom to use the final tickets on. So this past week, we had a baby shower for V & S. S, mainly. The surprise party...
