A September To Remember

Ah, what a month it was that just went by. Summer turned to Fall and the weather oscillated from hot to cold to hot again. It shouldn't be a surprise to most of you as to why September would be my favorite month of the year (This is your Captain {Obvious} speaking) but this edition of 2023 was a season of many firsts.

Lords Krishna and Ganesh - hello, my good relatives (#IYKYK) - blessed us in the same month for the first time in many years. While the R3K household generally does not do elaborate preparations to welcome our Gods to our humble abode, with the recent shopping spree in India, there were some feel-good moments to cherish. To make matters fun (for the kids), we all got to witness Lord Ganesha bid goodbye to Earthly beings as he was lowered in a tub full of H2O to hopefully resurface with even more pomp next year.

Another first. Master Riaan and yours truly got a chance to visit the friendly confines of the famous Wrigley Field - Home of the Chicago Cubs Baseball Team as a wonderful gift from The Great One for my birthday. A brilliant late summer day to enjoy our first live game in a packed stadium made better by a superb atmosphere. What's more, R&R got to enjoy an extra inning of America's favorite pass time. Unfortunately for us, the home team lost but we didn't lose any spirit.

This might be the only time in my life that I have actually cut three cakes to celebrate one birthday (thankfully, not on the same day). Did I not say a season of firsts?!? - Keep up people!

By no means was this a milestone year, but I am lucky (actually, I do not like that word for some reason), rather I am blessed to be with good friends and family in close proximity.

This must be getting rather tedious but another first I got to experience was on the last day of September - I attended the wedding reception and after party of a work colleague in beautiful downtown Chicago on an extraordinarily fantastic day. For the groom, EY was a big part of his life and he wanted to celebrate his special day with some of us - alongside their friends and families. To be invited (and be mentioned "as part of the EY family" in his reception speech) was truly a sweet moment - one that I personally will remember for a long time. To be in America all these years and going to my first American reception - well, time to check that off of my to-do list. What a memorable event - one that will forever stay in the memory bank. Matt - if you ever read this post - Thank you! I had a great time.

October - you have biiiig shoes to fill - Let's Go!

What a life!

Sunday Night Update

Watched the first presidential debate on friday night between John McCain and Barack Obama. Good timepass on a friday night, if you are into these things. I have been taking a keen interest in politics lately and it keeps the clock ticking for me after I reach home from work.  I am particularly annoyed and irritated at both these candidates on the Iraq war for always ignoring the fact that over 100,000 Iraqis have lost their lives. What wrong did they do? And there aren't too many news outlets that are willing to show the plight of (Iraqi) families who lost near and dear ones. That's obvious, isn't it? Barack Obama looks confident and ready moreso that John McCain to lead the United States for the next 4 years. Looking forward to the Joe Biden - Sarah Palin debate this coming thursday. Should be interesting to see Palin talk extempore without a teleprompter.  Back to some sunday night news here. For the first time in few years since I started following football, I felt bore...

Writer's Block

It's been six months since I put pen to paper, rather, fingers to keyboard, to put up a blog post. Talk about a writer's block. Highlights of the hiatus include; - Rivika and Riaan turning 10. That they are unrecognizable now compared to their 1st or even 5th birthday shows Kirti and I how fast they have really grown. Fine little pre-teens they've become, with their varied interests in sports and dance leading to a hopefully and potentially fulfilling childhood and beyond. - A splendid trip to Cancun (Mexico) to ring in the kids' milestone birthday. - The hottest Christmas in recent memory (celebrated in Mexico, that is). A trip to the ruins of Chichen-Itza (these folks knew what they were doing, mighty impressive I say), a stroll through the city center of Valladolid (one might say the place bears a striking resemblance to Panjim (Goa)), a thrill-seeking dive through a Cenote, copious amounts of watered-down unlimited alcohol at an all-inclusive resort, which in itself...

Please Help

While I have been blogging for nearly 2 years now and that visitors (like you) are fairly low in number, I would still like to know who you are. Although I know one of my UA friend is a regular here (and yes, it is you Hari), I don't know who are the other frequent fliers. If you choose to remain anonymous, that is also fine, but kindly leave a comment or two in the message box that is on the right side of the webpage. I am trying to get a feel for how often do you stop by. The reason I am asking you to do this is because I need your help. No, it has nothing to do with donations or anything monetary, but here I am in my third month in Bangalore and I am absolutely bored. I need some suggestions to utilize my time efficiently and effectively. Please refrain from suggesting using the gym or joining a book club. These 2 are not my cuppa tea. My mind is 100% blank about extra-curricular activities and I need some 'external' help. One of my closest friends had suggested joining...
