Let the madness begin...

I had written a post this past Sunday regarding the death and funeral of You Know Who but I had to take it down hours after I had posted it as a mark of RESPECT *wink* to the departed soul. I still have that post in my draft and when the right time comes (if ever) that post will be up. Unfortunately, the arrest of 2 girls for stating the truth landed them in jail and showed true colors of a mob, correction, political organization mourning the loss of their leader. Good for the girls, they are free on bail now albeit after being forced to apologize and their families being lighter by Rs 15000 or so each. Who pays for the repair of the clinic? Your guess is as good as mine.

So moving on to better things. It's THANKSGIVING in the US and while my buddies enjoy the 4 day weekend extravaganza, there is a small matter of Splurging. That's right - Black Friday is sandwiched between Turkey Day and Football Saturday and Sunday. The day when America enjoys a kick to it's downtrodden economy. People suddenly have Extra Money to 'waste" on gadgets that are either a model or two old OR will soon run out of their "It" factor by the time 2013 rolls around.

The crowds, the hot deals, the madness - Ah, pure joy to millions of citizens, residents and illegal immigrants of America. Nothing compares to the mayhem that is Black Friday anywhere in the world. It is the only day in America where people actually look forward to 'not sleeping' unless of course, there is a Twilight movie releasing, which in this year's case is actually True. How much I hate the Twilight series will be fodder for another topic. Compares to the ridiculousness that is CID.

Coming back to Black Friday. 2011 was the last one that we celebrated?! K was enthusiastic about a non-existent Apple (yes, Apple) iPod deal that was a MUST buy. She did her best to convert an Applephobe and in return she got to use the iPod on very few occasions. A Canon camera also became part of our family that day and so did a handful of clothes for both of us. K, when she focuses, is a beast when it comes to online shopping and online everything. You want something, she will get it for you. So she sat on the computer the Monday of Thanksgiving 2011 and by the end of it, we were gadget-rich and wallet-poor. Damn you, America!!

This year too, while we are not there, I am sure the frenzy is just as much if not more. The figures from biggies like Walmart, Target, Amazon, Best Buy etc. will be most watched to give an indication whether America has outdone itself. Surely, to no one's surprise, the numbers will be unmatched in the country's history. Sadly however, we will also know how many people were killed, injured due to stampede of restless men and women eager to get the HD TV on sale at Walmart. You just watch!!

Happy shopping!! Ping me back if you score a 'deal'.

Sunday Night Update

Watched the first presidential debate on friday night between John McCain and Barack Obama. Good timepass on a friday night, if you are into these things. I have been taking a keen interest in politics lately and it keeps the clock ticking for me after I reach home from work.  I am particularly annoyed and irritated at both these candidates on the Iraq war for always ignoring the fact that over 100,000 Iraqis have lost their lives. What wrong did they do? And there aren't too many news outlets that are willing to show the plight of (Iraqi) families who lost near and dear ones. That's obvious, isn't it? Barack Obama looks confident and ready moreso that John McCain to lead the United States for the next 4 years. Looking forward to the Joe Biden - Sarah Palin debate this coming thursday. Should be interesting to see Palin talk extempore without a teleprompter.  Back to some sunday night news here. For the first time in few years since I started following football, I felt bore...

Please Help

While I have been blogging for nearly 2 years now and that visitors (like you) are fairly low in number, I would still like to know who you are. Although I know one of my UA friend is a regular here (and yes, it is you Hari), I don't know who are the other frequent fliers. If you choose to remain anonymous, that is also fine, but kindly leave a comment or two in the message box that is on the right side of the webpage. I am trying to get a feel for how often do you stop by. The reason I am asking you to do this is because I need your help. No, it has nothing to do with donations or anything monetary, but here I am in my third month in Bangalore and I am absolutely bored. I need some suggestions to utilize my time efficiently and effectively. Please refrain from suggesting using the gym or joining a book club. These 2 are not my cuppa tea. My mind is 100% blank about extra-curricular activities and I need some 'external' help. One of my closest friends had suggested joining...

Writer's Block

It's been six months since I put pen to paper, rather, fingers to keyboard, to put up a blog post. Talk about a writer's block. Highlights of the hiatus include; - Rivika and Riaan turning 10. That they are unrecognizable now compared to their 1st or even 5th birthday shows Kirti and I how fast they have really grown. Fine little pre-teens they've become, with their varied interests in sports and dance leading to a hopefully and potentially fulfilling childhood and beyond. - A splendid trip to Cancun (Mexico) to ring in the kids' milestone birthday. - The hottest Christmas in recent memory (celebrated in Mexico, that is). A trip to the ruins of Chichen-Itza (these folks knew what they were doing, mighty impressive I say), a stroll through the city center of Valladolid (one might say the place bears a striking resemblance to Panjim (Goa)), a thrill-seeking dive through a Cenote, copious amounts of watered-down unlimited alcohol at an all-inclusive resort, which in itself...
