A California Vacation

Got back from an awesome July 4th weekend in California. Fantastic place and a great time. Nothing can beat that. Silicon Valley is a beauty with almost all big names in technology within a 20-30 mile radius. Google, Oracle, Yahoo, Microsoft, eBay, McAfee, Apple, Stanford University, Abbott, Sun Microsystems, Intel etc and a whole lot more. That place is a haven for technology freaks. No wonder SV is as expensive and in demand as seen on the television. Gas prices are at approximately $4.55 a gallon. Ouch!!

Visited San Jose, Palo Alto, Monterey, Sausolito, Mystery Spot and of course, San Francisco. Couldn't help but enjoy the amazing creation that is the Golden Gate Bridge with the notorious Alcatraz prison and the jaw dropping San Francisco downtown in the backdrop. Lombard Street with its almost 90 degree uphill drive and the crooked downhill crawl is a sight to watch and a thing to believe that such wonders do exist. Driving in SFO is not for the weak hearted. Glad to be on the passenger's seat for the entire ride. Ended the day at Pier 39/Fisherman's Wharf. A jolly good place.

One of the most beautiful places in Northern California is the 17-Mile Drive between the Pacific Grove and Pebble Beach. The most lavish and grand mansions are situated here and the views of the Pacific Ocean is magnificent. Sunset was amazing and the ride enjoyable. I am praising the place too much isn't it. Can't help it but the place is indeed worth every penny spent.

Mystery Spot was a great mystery. There is no explanation as to what happened there a long time ago but defying the laws of physics was something I could cherish a lot. You see I wasn't that great in Physics while in school. Sarcasm indeed.

Wish we could stay there for few more days. But all good things must come to an end and blessedly it was the perfect ending to a great getaway.

The only reason I write this...

So last time around, I missed writing about a new thing that we did for the first time. We went to a stand-up comedy show at The Improv in Schaumburg. We went to Anthony Jeselnik's show (those who watched the Roast of Charlie Sheen on Comedy Central should know who he is) and it was amazing. Non-stop jokes with a dead pan expression kept the audience in splits throughout the show. He even picked on someone from the crowd and made us realize never to mess with a professional. The woman who got singled out surely learnt her lesson. One thing with these comedians is that no one and no event (however tragic) is off-limits. Case in point, a joke about Casey/Caylee Anthony. So to use the second of our 3 coupons, we watched another show, this time by Greg Behrendt. The profanity-laden show was just average, clearly not the bar set by Jeselnik. And we are still debating on whom to use the final tickets on. So this past week, we had a baby shower for V & S. S, mainly. The surprise party...

Tax season is upon us and the due date for filing is quickly knocking on the doorsteps. Thankfully, got ours done this week and got a good tax consultant to help us out with it. Every year I think, we can get this done on our own and then reality strikes when I know someone can bail me out better. Same story this year as well. Past years' consultants never recommended opening an IRA or a 401(k) account, but this year, our consultant insisted we open one for atoning for past years' lost money :) More than ever, I am relieved that we finally got our house that both of us liked, its close to work and that rent is affordable. The 'hunt' was very frustrating and ironically we ended up in a locality where we had already checked out quite a few apartments. A dangerous situation occurred last night.
