Eid Mubarak

Eid Mubarak to one and all. Long weekend in India. This one will be followed by one more (Dusshera) and one more (Gandhi Jayanthi). Literally, back-to-back-to-back. Good thing right. Naah! I will be in Bangalore till at least Diwali when I run off to Bombay again. One silver lining next week comes in the form of Samit who drops in from Delhi. Should be a good time then.

So what did I do this weekend? Went off to see Wanted: Dead or Alive at the Forum on Saturday (all by myself). That's a first for me. Enjoyed a Salman Khan movie after a long time. The movie could easily have done without at least 3 songs. Thoroughly needless ones. With all the trouble Boney Kapoor went through financing the movie and the court troubles, not shooting those songs would have saved him some highly needed cash.

Sunday went without much excitement as I was home watching movies on my roommate's laptop. Ended up watching Dil Bole Hadippa as well. Barring 15 minutes of watchable scenes, the movie is completely over-the-top and mindless with over-acting by the lead, Rani Mukherjee. Her stock in Bollywood has fallen way down and she has (unfortunately) not chosen the right script for her so-called comeback. Glad Lagaan was made earlier than this.

One interesting thing happened Sunday night. Right across the building where I live, saw couple of Owls (of all animals and birds). Gorgeous creatures must say and they got right down to business (if you know what I mean :)). At one point during the live action, one even got up and looked me right in the eye and must have said in the language of the owls, "Hey buddy, what you lookin' at? Can we have some privacy please?". A couple minutes later though, they left the theater themselves.

Almost the whole of Monday morning and afternoon went without electricity in Bommanahalli. Finished watching UP, which was left halfway last night due to power cuts.

So there it was, watching a movie all by myself in the cinema hall to watching owls mate summed up my long weekend. Yeah, it was one of a kind. I seriously need a break.

Please Help

While I have been blogging for nearly 2 years now and that visitors (like you) are fairly low in number, I would still like to know who you are. Although I know one of my UA friend is a regular here (and yes, it is you Hari), I don't know who are the other frequent fliers. If you choose to remain anonymous, that is also fine, but kindly leave a comment or two in the message box that is on the right side of the webpage. I am trying to get a feel for how often do you stop by. The reason I am asking you to do this is because I need your help. No, it has nothing to do with donations or anything monetary, but here I am in my third month in Bangalore and I am absolutely bored. I need some suggestions to utilize my time efficiently and effectively. Please refrain from suggesting using the gym or joining a book club. These 2 are not my cuppa tea. My mind is 100% blank about extra-curricular activities and I need some 'external' help. One of my closest friends had suggested joining...

Sunday Night Update

Watched the first presidential debate on friday night between John McCain and Barack Obama. Good timepass on a friday night, if you are into these things. I have been taking a keen interest in politics lately and it keeps the clock ticking for me after I reach home from work.  I am particularly annoyed and irritated at both these candidates on the Iraq war for always ignoring the fact that over 100,000 Iraqis have lost their lives. What wrong did they do? And there aren't too many news outlets that are willing to show the plight of (Iraqi) families who lost near and dear ones. That's obvious, isn't it? Barack Obama looks confident and ready moreso that John McCain to lead the United States for the next 4 years. Looking forward to the Joe Biden - Sarah Palin debate this coming thursday. Should be interesting to see Palin talk extempore without a teleprompter.  Back to some sunday night news here. For the first time in few years since I started following football, I felt bore...

The only reason I write this...

So last time around, I missed writing about a new thing that we did for the first time. We went to a stand-up comedy show at The Improv in Schaumburg. We went to Anthony Jeselnik's show (those who watched the Roast of Charlie Sheen on Comedy Central should know who he is) and it was amazing. Non-stop jokes with a dead pan expression kept the audience in splits throughout the show. He even picked on someone from the crowd and made us realize never to mess with a professional. The woman who got singled out surely learnt her lesson. One thing with these comedians is that no one and no event (however tragic) is off-limits. Case in point, a joke about Casey/Caylee Anthony. So to use the second of our 3 coupons, we watched another show, this time by Greg Behrendt. The profanity-laden show was just average, clearly not the bar set by Jeselnik. And we are still debating on whom to use the final tickets on. So this past week, we had a baby shower for V & S. S, mainly. The surprise party...
